National Sports Commission Responds | 1.2 Million Naira Facebook Page

The National Sports Commission has responded to allegations that it spent 1.2 Million Naira to open a Facebook page. Their response is republished below:
  • The attention of the National Sports Commission has been drawn to posts on the Commission’s Page alleging that the Commission spent the sum of N1.2m to open a Facebook Page. Nothing can be further from the truth. The truth of the matter is:
  • The idea to open a Facebook Page for the National Sports Commission (NSC) was muted by the ICT Unit of the Commission. The objective of the project was to “use Facebook as an interactive forum to connect the Nigerian youth all over the world with the National Sports Commission and its mission”.
  • During the course of briefing the immediate past Hon. Minister of Sports/Chairman, National Sports Commission, Alh. Yusuf Suleiman, he directed that a more aggressive approach be adopted in projecting the Facebook Page. The Hon. Minister (HM), who has a personal Facebook Page, also directed that the Facebook crew should accompany him to visit all the athletes and their coaches who were in various camps across the country in preparation for the 10th All Africa Games. Furthermore, he directed that the crew should attend the 10th AAG in Maputo to update the Page on happenings during the Games.
  • Consequent upon the Hon. Minister’s directives, a Memo dated August 2, 2011 seeking for N902,000.00 was approved for a two-man team to visit the various camps. This was to enable the crew interact directly with the athletes and their coaches and obtain firsthand information about them for Facebook Page.
  • Following the directive of the HM to adopt a more aggressive approach in projecting the Facebook Page, it was decided at the ICT Unit level that the NSC Facebook Page should be advertised in Facebook. An initial sum of $200 was committed to this. This immediately translated to a tremendous increase in the followership of the NSC Facebook within one week.
It is no secret that Facebook Pages can either be used as:
  • a personal social interactive forum; or
  • a commercial tool to advertise goods and services, project a cause, draw awareness to products, canvass for followership, etc.
The Commission’s Facebook Page was deployed for the second category, which naturally attracts advertisement costs. The creators of Facebook can be contacted on this.
  • Furthermore, following the success of the advert, another memo dated August 26, 2011 for N300,000.00 was approved to step up and extend the advertisement of the Page, purchase Internet Modems with a one month additional subscription.
We wish to state that:
  • Opening of Facebook pages does not attract any form of payment and the NSC Facebook Page was opened at no cost.
  • The initial $200 paid for advertisement was privately funded.
  • The sums of N902,000.00 and N300,000.00 were approved for the Facebook Page crew to accompany the HM on his visits to the various camps of athletes and their coaches and to purchase internet modems with additional one month subscription respectively. Of this amount, the sum of $1,000 (N160,000.00) was to advertise the NSC Facebook Page in Facebook and the Page was so advertised.
All the above can be verified.

Nigeria Customs Service Targets One Trillion In 2012

Nigeria Customs Service is targeting collection of One Trillion Naira revenue in the year 2012. Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Inde Abdullahi, disclosed this during the first revenue Strategy meeting for the New Year held with Customs Area Controllers in Abuja.

The 2012 strategy he said will be based on a strict implementation of current fiscal policy anchored on increasing use of IT tools.

“We benefited tremendously from the use of System Audit last year, we are going to consolidate on those gains by tapping into the opportunities which the Asycuda System provides us”, he said.

In addition to the System Audit Strategy, the Comptroller-General disclosed that the use of the Risk Assessment Reports (RARs) will be closely monitored to prevent the rampant abuse of the system. He directed that all unutilized RARs carried over from 2011 and previous years be compiled and investigated.

He warned the Comptrollers that merit and performance shall be the major criteria for deployment, noting that no excuse will be entertained for non-performance. “Last year there was 25% increase in the volume of cargo imported into the country. If the tempo is sustained, our target is realizable” he added.

According to the Target Breakdown Apapa Port leads the pack, with N27 Billion projected Revenue. Revenue target for other Command include:
  • Tin-can Island Port - N22 Billion
  • Onne Port - N10 Billion
  • PTML (Tincan II) - N7.5 Billion
  • Lilypond - N5 Billion
  • Kirikiri Lighter - N 5 Billion
  • Edo/Delta - N4.5 Billion
  • Port Harcourt I - N4 Billion
Last year, the Nigeria Customs Service generated a total of N741, 836,653,478, representing a surplus of N148 Billion over the Service target of N596 Billion.

2face Idibia released VIDEO: ‘Raindrops’

2face has released yet another video off his ‘The Unstoppable; Intl. Edition‘ album. While we wait expectantly for another record from the multiple award winning artiste, we will have to make do with this…

The song still sounds fresh even after three years after release. But the video, directed by Isaac Offei Awuah is certainly played out for an icon like Mr Idibia. Often, his videos portray him in a reflective mood, the concept is ‘overflogged’ and leaves you bored halfway.

It’s still nice to watch 2face in words and pictures though…
